Kingston and Port Royal
Prices

From your hotel you travel eastward from the city passing the Flour Mill, Cement Factory and a a popular mineral bath onto the 10 mile long Palisadoes Peninsula which shelters Kingston Harbour, making it the 7th largets natural harbour in the world. Along the peninsula you pass the Norman Manley International Airport out to its farthest tip and the town of Port Royal.

In its hey-day, Port Royal was the favoured anchorage for some of history's most famous pirates and buccaneers, including the legendary Henry Morgan.

A heaven for bootleggers and their booty, the town was known as the "wickedest city on earth". Port Royal also figured prominently in many of the battles for possession of Caribbean territories between the Spanish and the English. The remains of Admiral Nelson's quarterdeck and a small arcaeological museum bear testimony to this period of history.

In 1692, the town was destroyed by an earthquake and a sizeable portion of its land area sank beneath the sea. Underwater archaeological research has discovered many priceless artifacts from that period The Giddy House which was tilted in that earthquake stands as mute testimony.

Port Royal today is a quaint little fishing village and formerly the training Headquarters for the Island's Police Force. The return trip takes you via downtown Kingston, the Craft Market and Devon House for souvenir shopping.
